SI units in lab reports
Treat every number and unit as one quantity, and change the value whenever a prefix conversion changes the scale.
Use symbols as symbols
SI style generally places a space between a numerical value and its unit symbol. Symbols are case-sensitive mathematical entities, not plural abbreviations with periods.
Convert value and prefix together
Changing mL to L requires the matching power-of-ten change in the displayed value. A unit-only edit silently changes the quantity; a thousand-fold discrepancy is a strong prompt to inspect prefix handling.
Audit every presentation surface
Compare prose, column headings, axis labels, legends, captions, and calculation lines. OCR and font substitution can also turn the micro symbol into a plain letter.
Follow the governing convention
Use the current BIPM and NIST references together with the course's stated conventions. Do not use a formatter to decide whether the chosen physical unit is scientifically appropriate.
