Results vs discussion in a lab report
Results report what the analysis produced; discussion explains what those results may mean in light of evidence and constraints.
Results own the evidence
Present measured values, statistical summaries, and referenced visuals without hiding the calculation or sample context.
Discussion owns interpretation
Connect results to hypotheses, theory, prior expectations, limitations, and alternative explanations.
Both sections must agree
Discussion should cite the same values and conditions found in results. A revised table can leave an old interpretation behind.
Avoid causal overreach
An observed association or difference does not automatically establish mechanism or causality. Calibrate claims to the design.
