Proofreading improves local expression; consistency review checks whether separated parts of a report still agree.
Proofreading works locally
Spelling, grammar, punctuation, and sentence clarity can usually be assessed within a paragraph. These edits improve readability but may never inspect the table that a sentence summarizes.
Consistency review follows dependencies
A consistency pass asks whether a number in the conclusion matches its result, whether an axis uses the reported unit, and whether a calculation can be traced to input values.
Use both in sequence
Freeze calculations first, audit cross-section agreement second, and proofread the stabilized draft last. Otherwise a late numerical correction can reopen already polished prose.
Keep authorship
A useful checker points to evidence and leaves the decision with the student. It should not silently rewrite a result or manufacture an explanation.
