Lab report consistency checklist

Review a lab report by tracing evidence across sections instead of proofreading each paragraph in isolation.

Start with an evidence map

List the result tables, figures, calculations, and rubric requirements that other sections rely on. This makes every later check traceable to a source in your own work.

  • Freeze the draft you are reviewing.
  • Keep raw data and calculation sheets beside the report.
  • Record each issue with a section and evidence location.

Pass 1: numbers across sections

Compare headline results in the abstract, results, discussion, and conclusion. A value may be rounded differently, but the transformation should be explainable.

Pass 2: units and figures

Check unit symbols, prefixes, axis labels, captions, and in-text references. Make the same quantity easy to recognize everywhere it appears.

Passes 3–6: calculations, claims, rubric

Recalculate representative results, link every conclusion claim to visible evidence, and finish with the actual course rubric. The checklist finds review work; it does not predict a grade or determine scientific truth.
