Lab report consistency checklist
Freeze one completed report package, trace each high-impact statement to its source, and correct from the source outward.
Before the six passes
Freeze the report version you intend to submit and place its raw data, calculations, figures, and actual assignment rubric beside it. Record every candidate issue with both locations; never choose a value because it appears most often.
- Confirm every intended attachment is present.
- Use the course rubric, not a generic format template.
- Keep a short change log so corrected evidence is rechecked downstream.
Passes 1–2: numbers and units
Trace headline quantities from their source calculation or table into the abstract, results, discussion, and conclusion. Then compare unit symbols, prefixes, conversions, and reporting precision across prose, tables, axes, legends, and captions.
Passes 3–4: figures and calculations
Check that every figure and table has one stable label, a useful caption, an in-text purpose, and values that agree with the narrative. Recalculate representative results from stated inputs while carrying units and guard digits through the trace.
Passes 5–6: claims and requirements
Split each conclusion into testable claims and point each claim to visible results. Finish by mapping every rubric requirement to a section, figure, table, calculation, or appendix. An unresolved location is a review task, not a predicted grade.
- Narrow claims that exceed the measured conditions.
- Do not change data to fit preferred prose.
- Rerun affected passes after any source correction.
