How to check your course AI policy
The authoritative policy is the instruction from your institution, course, instructor, and assignment—not a generic tool page.
Collect the governing instructions
Read the syllabus, assignment prompt, learning platform notices, and instructor clarifications. Preserve the exact wording and date.
Identify allowed actions
Separate brainstorming, proofreading, consistency checking, coding, data analysis, and generated prose. A policy may treat them differently.
Check disclosure requirements
Determine whether tool name, prompts, outputs, citations, or an appendix must be disclosed.
Ask when ambiguous
Do not infer permission from another course or a vendor claim. Request instructor clarification before submitting affected work.
