LABCRUX GUIDE

How to check graph axis labels

Each axis should identify the quantity and unit, and every rescaling or transformation should agree with the caption, equation, and prose.

Name the measured quantity

Use a meaningful variable name rather than an unexplained spreadsheet column. Define symbols in the caption or report.

Put units with the quantity

A common form is Quantity (unit). Dimensionless ratios should be identified rather than given a fabricated unit.

Audit scale and prefix

Check logarithmic axes, scientific-notation multipliers, and milli/micro/kilo prefixes. The fitted equation must use the same scale.

Compare every mention

Match axis labels against captions, legends, methods, result sentences, and calculation outputs.
